How We Work

Our Philosophy

We give clear, practical advice and work hard for every client we represent. Our focus is on you – your goals, your family, and your future.

We do not take a “billable hours” approach to family law matters. We are accountable to our clients, not to quotas, and we do not pass our files off to junior lawyers. We listen carefully, take a pragmatic approach, and focus on solutions that make sense for your circumstances and your children.

We understand that most clients are not looking for a prolonged court battle. You want a fair resolution, clarity, and the ability to move forward with your life. We share those goals, and we work deliberately and efficiently to achieve them.

Choosing the right lawyer means trusting not only their legal knowledge, but also their judgment, integrity, and approach. We believe that after speaking with us, you will feel confident in our ability to guide you through what may be one of the most challenging periods of your life.

Choosing the Right Family Law Process

Choosing the right legal process is just as important as choosing the right family lawyer. Without a clear understanding of your options, it’s easy to move forward in a way that may not serve you – or your children – as well as it could.

At the outset of every client relationship, we take the time to understand your situation and discuss which family law approach is best suited to your circumstances. There is no one-size-fits-all solution in separation or divorce matters, and we believe these conversations need to happen early.

Understanding Your Options

Family law matters in Ontario can be resolved in different ways. Depending on your situation, resolution may be achieved through mediation, negotiation, or court proceedings.

When you first speak with us, we explain the available legal processes and what each option involves, including potential benefits, risks, timelines, and costs. Our role is to ensure you have clear, practical information so you can make informed decisions at every stage of your case.

While no family law matter is entirely predictable, we use our experience and judgment to help you move forward with clarity and realistic expectations.

Mediation and Traditional Representation

In some situations, you may need a divorce lawyer who can advocate firmly on your behalf to move matters toward resolution. In other cases, family mediation may offer a more efficient, collaborative, and child-focused path forward.

Where appropriate, mediation can reduce conflict, control legal costs, and allow families to retain greater control over outcomes. Where mediation is not suitable, we provide strong legal representation through negotiation and, when necessary, litigation before the Ontario courts.

We help clients assess which approach is most likely to work based on their goals, relationship history, level of trust between parties, and the legal issues involved.

A Thoughtful, Individualized Approach

Every separation involves different dynamics, financial considerations, and parenting concerns. We do not approach family law matters with preset strategies or assumptions.

Instead, we:

  • Listen carefully to understand your concerns, priorities, and goals

  • Explain legal procedures, options, and likely outcomes in clear, practical terms

  • Work diligently to achieve fair and durable resolutions so you and your children can move forward with stability

We draw on our experience to anticipate issues before they escalate, helping clients avoid unnecessary conflict and delay.

Throughout the process, we remain focused on practical solutions and long-term well-being.

Moving Forward

Once a process has been chosen, we will get your matter started and begin working toward resolution in a focused, efficient, and thoughtful way. We remain accessible, responsive, and committed to guiding you through what is often one of the most challenging periods of your life.
